The other day I noticed water coming out of an overfllow pipe just under the eaves of my house, right near where my cold water tank is located. It just seemed to start suddenly for no reason. I went round and flushed both loos and turned on hot and cold taps for a few seconds - and then it stopped!!

Can anyone explain why? Was this a one off or should I investigate further???

First port of call is to check your float valve in the tank in the attic.
If it feeds a cylinder , it should cut off the water flow when the level is 2 ins below the overflow pipe.

Set the level accordingly. If malfunctioning, replace washer or whole valve unit.

Post back with your results. :D

I know this is an old post, but just wanted to let Bacho know how I got on!

The valve mechanism was working but very crusted with limescale, which I have cleaned off. So far so good, no more overflows! If it goes again, though, I'll replace it.

Thanks for detailed instructions - you may not have the fastest finger in the west but it was the most helpful!

Oops, sorry, not done on purpose I can assure you.

I think Bacho is spanish for something rude!
