Hello, newbie here...I have a 22Kw Jaguar combi boiler. Since the boiler was fitted I was advised by the engineer to keep an eye on the pressure which should be an indicated 1.1 and if it dropped below to open the cold feed a bit until 1.1 was displayed.

A coupleof days ago I noticed the pressure indicator was really high...an indicated 4.1. It has come down a tad and is now 3.4 but, clearly, way too high.

This morning however I went out in the garden and noticed the overflow for the boiler was discharging water. It's pouring quite a bit.

What do you guys think is the problem and can it be rectified?

Thank you.

Joe

expansion vessel dead or needs re charged, see FAQS at top of page

make sure the filling loop is turned off, and to verify remove silver braided hose

PRV will have to be replaced for sure

Thank you for that I'll have a look at the FAQs...PRV...Pressure Release Valve?

Is this a simple enough job or will it be a nightmare? Every time we've asked an engineer to come and have a look at the boiler they always say Jaguar boilers are a pita, whereas at the time of fitting it we were told they were pretty good.

Certainly we've not had problems until recently. The filling loop...In the photo below there is a valve with a screw head just behind the braided hose (red arrow). This is the bit I was told to open briefly to add water if the pressure dropped...is that the bit you mean?

I noticed today that normally it only needs to be adjusted a fraction to close the water but today it needed quite a large turn, and water does still appear to be feeding in.

To remove the braided hole like you suggest...is it just a case of undoing it or do I need to do anything else first? And, if I do remove it, will that mean that the over flowing stops...as no feed going in? Sorry about the stack of questions...

have you looked at the FAQS yet concerning re inflating exp vessel?

close the valve that you have spoken about and arrowed in the pic

remove hose, and blank off the arrowed valve with the cap that is hanging from the braided hose. these cheapo ball o fix type valves always end up passing

Hi there, thanks! I did try to remove the braided hose. When I undid it it started ****ing water all over the place

I'll try again tomorrow in daylight. I did look at the FAQs but don't find it that easy to follow as I have no knowledge of plumbing

Again, I'll give it another go in the morning. I also had a look at the FAQ on the PRV. It states that they are normally red, but I have 3x red valves and one yellow...as may be seen in the photo...thanks for help thus far.

if you closed filling loop valve and when you removed filling loop it was passing, that will probably be the cause of the pressure rise

If you want to stop it from continuing overnight, you'll have to turn off the mains supply.

When you get it sorted, then relieve the excess pressure (to 1.2ish bar when system cold) by draining from a drain off valve possibly situated at the bottom of a radiator, or by draining a radiator if this isn't available.

disconnect your fiill loop, its a breach of the water wras regs anyway, and find a cure for the passing fill valve

Thanks fellas, we had -4 overnight down here so the water that was draining out froze all over the roof out the back

I'm hoping the problem is just confined to the valve at the braided hose. I'll get that replaced and I'll update again :D

Well, the braided loop has been changed and a new filling valve has been fitted...a much better one with a turn grip so no more messing around with a screw driver 8)

It doesn't appear to be overflowing any more and heating and water appears to be working fine again.

Thank you all for your help and have a good Christmas! :D
