Paint beneath wall paper

Hi again

having stripped the wallpaper in my lounge, that is gonna be plastered next week, I have noticed patches of paint here and there (gloss paint I think). I cant think why they painted parts of the wall, but it looks like they have.

It is a single coat and bonded to the wall as well as can be expected, i.e it is a t_wat to remove.

Does it need to be completely removed before the skim coat is applied??? or can plaster be applied on top of it?

Gloss! Are you sure it's not just vinyl emulsion? I’ve not tried plastering over oil based gloss paint but with vinyl I give the surface a good scrubbing with a stiff wire brush to key the surface; one coat of PVA completely dried (at least overnight) & a second PVA coat immediately before plastering; I use a thicker than normal, 3:1 first coat over vinyl as I’ve found it helps to bond the new skim. You should consult your plasterer & ask him how he wants the surface prepared as he may have his own preference.

Thanks for the advice, I will ring the plasterer and let him know.
You could be right actually it may be vinyl emulsion. It doesnt have the same shine as gloss, but id quite 'elasticy' when I heat it up with a wall paper steamer.

Sounds like it's viynl emulsion, youd need a heat gun too affect gloss paint.
