Hi all, our second living room was redecorated about two years ago and now paint has started flaking in the window alcove. The paint appears to be going 'dusty' and gradually flaking off. This is the only area of the room that has this issue. The wall is plasterboard which was painted previously without this issue, it's only been since we redecorated and I'm stumped with what to do, so any advice is appreciated.

Many thanks, David

Dew1983, good evening.

What state is the external pointing to the window in the area immediately outside the damaged alcove?

Is the damage below, level with the sill, or above the sill level?

I have seen that happen when the plasterboard has become wet and then dried out.

As per KenGMac's post, I would start by looking at potential issues outside.

In and of itself, plasterboard is pretty stable. Moisture is however a common point of failure.
