Paint for Wood Stairs

Hi All,

Have sanded down my stairs and am looking to put hard wearing off white paint on them. Anyone know of anything suitable?

Also, as im a complete novice , what primer should i use first? Any partiacular type?

Right then...first thing, give the knots a coat of knotitng to prevent ugly brown rings bleeding through.

Then give the wood a coat of acrylic primer undercoat, rub down, dust off, then a coat of either oil based eggshell or satinwood...they are both very durable.
