Paint previously waxed door

I have a reproduction four panel pine door that someone has waxed with a dark wax. I wish to paint it. I've been all over the door with a belt sander, and hand sanded the panels, but there will inevitably be some residual wax, especially in the corners.

What is recommended to remove the residue?

Is there a primer that will tolerate a slightly waxy surface and not fall off? Something by Zinsser?

You can use ammonia to remove wax.

It will raise the grain though.

AFAIK the following is solvent based and won't raise the grain.
