Are there genuinely any sprayers, electric or compressor type that work well on oils for fences, or is the old way with a brush work best?

Up to you but I have long since given up painting fences because you then have to do it every year as bushes scrape it off ect and it looks a mess.
I know you said oil but I am not that convinced that anything you do will per long its life apart from concrete gravel boards and the fence held off the gravel board by the thickness of a nail head driven in the bottom and also a good top rail which is the only part of the fence i treat. Then let everything else silver in the sun

I used nail varnish on my fence. It took 360 days to paint.

The thing with sprayers in my mind is they they just dont put it on thick enough although never used one. And isnt the product thinner so it can be sprayed.
