We are hoping to paint over newly applied cement rendering in an inglenook fire place prior to installing a multi fuel stove. Can anyone recommend a suitable paint as we are getting conflicting advice? How long should we leave the rendering to dry before applying the paint? Would our best bet be to tile the area for easy cleaning?

Tiling would be my choice for sure.
But if you are painting it, I would leave it 48 hours to set at least. Then apply a few good coats of unibond to seal the surface, and then your preferred paint.
You would be best seeking advice in a Good specialist paint shop on that one if your unsure.
