I want to build a small desk for my son and the cheapest, strongest wood I could find in B & Q was chipboard.

Can I paint this? What should I paint it with?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Good coat of primer or thinned down undercoat. Let it dry , rub it down, Couple of coats of Satinwood or water based paint to finish.

I'd use mdf primer (get no nonsense stuff from screwfix). Couple of coats with mini roller with fibre (not foam) head before an emulsion. Then finish with couple of coats of quick drying clear varnish (satin). Beautiful.
