Hi I had some areas of flaky paint on my cornicing which I have scraped off. I am now left with areas of bare coving and a build up of paint layers at the edges of these areas. How do I get a smooth area when I repaint? Do I have to paint the bare area over and over to get a build up of paint to match the edges or what!!!!

Try to blend out the steps using fine abrasive paper carefully. I'm doing exactly the same job at the moment where I've removed paint to fill cracks in coving.
