I need to redecorate my hallway but I'm worried about painting onto the existing surface as I'm not sure it'll adhere to it.

I'm going to use a good quality dulux paint (matt emulsion) and paint into the fairly shiny silk finished paint that's there already.

As its pretty high and quite difficult to get to I don't know how practical it'll be to get up and close to the existing paint in all places.

Any help/advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Silk can be a pain, so use a roller pole and blank it out with cheapo contract matt and then your top coat over that.

The best way is really oil undercoat but it stinks.

a good rub down should do it sometimes it will crack though soft sheen paint on your silk then matt will ensure success
