Having a go at doing up the kitchen. Have filled in a few holes and also walls with wickes ready made plaster.

How long should I let it dry?

What paint should I buy, and how many coats etc.

Tahnks for your advice.

If you have only patched a few holes then it should be dry with in 24hr's and ready for paint.

I don't know what condition your walls are in but it they are bare plaster or close to then use a cheep white emulsion mix enough of this with water to thin it down 2 coats. IF new bare plaster (Not a small Patch) then give 2 coats of this mixture, an alternative to this would be Unibond, this agin you mix with water. This I would recommend if new or old plaster as it forms a key for what you do next either paper or paint.

As to the finish paint or top coat use what you like a cheep white or magnolia will be just as good as a quality named brand. Just make sure you stir the paint well. (I would say shake the tin well but that could be disastrous in the wrong hands)LOL

p.s If you are looking for really smooth walls give the walls a coat with the water mixed emulsion 1 coat this will help highlight any areas that may need further sanding or filling.

no no and no again do not put PVA/Unibond on your walls. Do not put it anywhere near your walls. Throw it in the bin. Its not what it was made for and WILL cause you probs down the road. Esp when you come to paint over it. Bare plaster and patches and new plaster should be mist coated with a contract emulsion watered down with 20 to 30% of clean water.

I have used PVA/UNIBOND well watered down in certain area's and do not recall any problems. But I am not a decorator so stand corrected.
