Want to paint some MDF and wondering what to use. Around 8 years ago I painted MDF that I had made into cabinet carcasses using vinyl silk emulsion. I worked well, the surface still looks great and wears well any marks being easily washed off with soap and water. The emulsion was standard Dulux stuff from one of the sheds.

Now I want to do the same thing with some more MDF, but when I went to buy the paint I noticed that the standard emulsion no longer says "vinyl" on the can. The shop shelf label says it but not the product packaging. In fact vinyl emulsion seems to have vanished! Doing some searching there are people complaining about the quality of modern emulsion paint and how it is not washable any more.

So what has happened to vinyl emulsion and what can I paint the MDF with that will give the great results I achieved before?
