Hi all,

I have a White Gloss Bannister on my stairs and was wondering if i can paint a pine varnish over the top of if i would have to sand down and clean 1st.

any help appreciated, as this is my first time decorating, and i have a multitude of tasks to do.

thanks

You'll have to strip every last bit of white off or it'll show as an orange spot.

Better leaving it painted in my opinion.

ahh ok that makes my life a bit easier, im assuming i can just re apply a new coat of white gloss then instead to make it look less cream coloured

For best results, sand with 120 grit paper then oil undercoat then gloss.

is it a wood grain look you're after?
you can get "graining" kits..
comes with a couple of tins of paint.. one light colour put on as a base coat, then a darker colour that is put on and "combed" while it's still wet with a rubber thing that puts the grain pattern in..
