ive got a small patch that has been damaged by damp. (30cm x 30cm)The damp problem has been sorted (external problem) this has left the patch with flaking paint and bare plaster! I was going to perform the following steps:

  • Clean the area
  • Add a mist coat
  • Add a stain sealer
  • Two coats of the emulsion
Would this be correct? And has anyone got any tips about blending it in with the rest?

All flaking paint you will have to remove. If it were me, I'd try without the stain sealer, in particular if you are already back to bare plaster. In my experience, they might leave a lighter background and shine through the emulsion.

If the problem has been solved and has been allowed to dry out completely and the affected plasters removed you should be able to patch plaster the area, might be worth applying a bit of pva to make sure you get a good bond repaint with the mist coat then a couple of top coats, in regards to blending it in you may be able to feather it enough not to notice it too much or try to take it to a corner or where the end will be hidden by furniture, some brands of paint will not patch well, if the wall is not that big it may be as easy just to paint the whole area.
