Morning

My 'storm porch' i.e. the small pitched roof that covers the front door and adjacent living room window, is tired underneath. Paint is starting to flake.

My question is... how far should I go back with the sanding? Take it all off back to the wood - or just remove all loose stuff and give the rest a good rub over?

Some of it looks like it'll be back to the wood anyway when I sand the loose stuff off.

Take off all that is necessary or burn it all off.

Doing just what's necessary will mean you have to spot prime the bare areas and attempt via spot prime and undercoat to level the surface ready for top coats.

Problem with this method is that although you will have clean and new you are very likely to have an average finish. Likely the unevenness due to mixed paint layers will show.

If you burn it all off and start with a blank canvas then your doing the best job.
