Sorry if this is already answered elsewhere, navigating this on my phone on 3g is a bit cumbersome!
I want to paint my passage which had wood panels from skirting to about 1/3 way up wall. They've been stained before dark and we want to paint it light (some white or off-white) to try and lighten the feel a bit.
A decorater who was here once said that he would first rub it all with wire wool, before then using filler between the gaps between the panels to smooth the joins, then undercoat then final coat. I just wire wooled a small section to try and noticed it becomes very smooth - does it not need to be a bit rough (as it already is) in order to provide a key (?) for the undercoat?
Sorry, my DIY skills are very limited but happy to try. Just need some good sound advice on how to do this...I shall try and upload a photo if that helps..
Thanks in advance
