Paiting the inside of the fireplace

We have decided to cover our horrible red brick fireplace. It is being plastered and the firebox rendered. A woodburning stove is going in.

What is the best paint to do the interior of the firebox? I am using normal emulsion on the walls, but I don't know if this will be up to the job around the stove.

How about speaking to the guy who is rendering the recess to see if the cement render can be coloured?
