Hello all,
I bought my late grandads bungalow 6 months ago with a parkray Cumbria 99 that was only fitted 2 years previous. It has a tank in the loft (hot water I believe) and runs 6 radiators through a pump system. the problem we had originally was that it took forever to get the radiator system going although the hot water was always there. The engineer that fitted us a new radiator suggested turning the thermostats down to get the water running round which worked great but now we have no hot water spare for a bath? We have the pump switch on all the time. Are we doing something wrong? We are complete novices to solid fuels systems so are kind of just guessing? We have had the chimney swept. I have enclosed photos, any help would be appreciated :)

Which fuel are you using?
Is the fire drawing?
Is the Thermostat opening?
Have you cleaned the Throat plate?

Used to use phurnacites until my grandads stash ran dry, and found out it was an arm and a leg. Now we use just a multi fuel briquette.
Thermostat on the side of fire opens and shuts yeah. What does the fire drawing mean? And how do I go about cleaning the throat plate? I've had the throat plate out before as when we first lit the fire it was billowing smoke into the room and we found a block in the flu (as it had been left 3 months) but we've since had it swept.

The Throat plate should be checked for deposits weekly.

Phurnacite is more expensive but gives more heat. Why do you think Grand dad had a stash?
Try a few bags and see what happens.
Hot water will be quicker with pump off.

Grandad was coal man so he got it for free. Lucky him. Took us about 3 months to use what was left in the bunkers, and changing to a cheaper alternative we haven't really saw much difference in the heat output - just the lack of hot water really. Should I be turning the pump off or have it on a timer, I just thought the pump pumped it to the tank of n the loft which is where it needs to be for the hot water? Sorry I sound so stupid!
