hi guys,

Got this question on a test...

---
Which statement is NOT true? A polarity test will verify that:
A All single-pole switches are in the line conductor only
B The line conductor connects to the centre-contact of an ES lamp
C Conductors are wired to the correct terminals in socket-outlets
D The circuit's cpc has a low resistance
---

Can one of you sparkys tell me which and explain why pls? - Part of my Part P module.

thanks

I nearly got tripped up by the key word being used by City and Guilds at the moment, NOT.

Take away the word NOT and re-read the question. This will leave you with ONE answer, the odd one out, and the correct answer.

These are the questions formats that I drum into candidates to look out for and I nearly fell foul of it too :D

The answer is very easy. If you cannot even begin to understand what polarity is then I'm afraid your route to becoming an electrician is going to be a rocky one.

Think about what the word polarity means.........

Hmm,

From that logic ive got:

A All single-pole switches are in the line conductor only
B The line conductor connects to the centre-contact of an ES lamp
C Conductors are wired to the correct terminals in socket-outlets
D The circuit's cpc has a low resistance

It's the question format.. the way it's written makes it look like there are three possible answers.

It's not really a test on knowledge, its a test of reading skills.

I'm a smart fella - basic electric theory holds no worries....

But the way this thing asks a question is like chinglish!... are they making it harder to train up as a electrician??

Ahh... a re-read - im off back to bed...

D: CPC resistance

Would i be correct?

CPC is the next module once i've done this

You don't know which of those is false?

Are you saying that you think the highlighted one is false?

That a polarity test won't verify that all single-pole switches are in the line conductor only?

No it isn't.

No it isn't.

It really, really, really is not - it is perfectly clear.

Or at least it b****y well ought to be.

OK, OK, but the word NOT is a big trip up in most candidates that sit the 2382. It's a tricky way to write a question in my opinion.
