So I recently had a complete re-roof, from no membrane natural slates to membrane and manmade slates.
The chimney stack needed attention to.
I was working from home at the time and I could hear a load of banging, sawing and hammering, not the usual brickwork noises.
I popped out and could see he was cutting the battens, I asked what has happemed and I was told that the membrane had got torn.
I could see around 10 bricks losely piled further up on the membrane and battens.
Whenever before, I have been in the loft (on windy days) I could feel the wind wafting through as there was no membrane so I was looking forward the feel the difference after membrane is installed. So hearing the newly laid membrane had been torn and new battens were being cut to patch up the membrane did upset me.
On all YouTube videos I only see the roofers laying membrane in full lengths across the roof's width.
I was later told that membrane can be overlapped covering two rafters. So this seem ok when there is no battens fixed in that area.
How is this done when battens are fully nailed down and most of the roof is slated apart from a 1m width un-slated allowing the roofer support on battens whilst working on the stack?
Thanks.
