More of a legal question than repair. Any help much appreciated.
My brother in law bought a Peugot 807 deisel `as is' so knew what he was buying therefore no comeback from seller.
He had problems with `anti pollution fault' and car kept cutting out. Took into into main dealer for diagnostic - £100 - they identified the problem as the failed deisel pump. Replaced and repaired -£1000 - and said it was now ok. Driving along 2 hours later same problem occured. Went back to main dealer who then said ahh, the injector is blocked as something was stuck in the injector they would need to dismantle engine and repair - £2000 - My question is, should the garage have spotted this in their original diagnostic instead of repairing what they thought was wrong?
Does he have any comeback?

The main dealer probably has much experience of failing injector pumps, and should have been aware that as the pump wears away inside,it usually pumps debris up the injector pipes. This causes blockages in the spray holes, which are quite fine on modern diesels.
Most dealers will not have the necessary equipment to clean the fouled injectors,so can only fit a new set. This should really have been done when the pump was replaced.Don't know the cost for the 807,but a VW TDI set costs about £1000!! They probably,to keep the cost down, decided to gamble on the injectors being ok.The engine should not need dismantling, just remove and replace the injectors.Unfortunately, this still means, with the original cost,a probable total of £2000 to cure the problem.
Your brother, can only really try to get the dealer to share the burden and supply the parts trade.
