Heres one for you that I can't get my head around what is happening............... I went to a friends house and noticed he had removed a radiator in one of the rooms.

Instead of just capping the tails he joined the pipes together, in effect the pipe has now become the radiator.

My question.......... which would have been the better option and why?

Normally we cap off but the pipe is releasing valuable heat into the room. :D

A professional will just cap off the tails. Sometimes its easier to join them but in that case the valves are left off.

Just joining the two together and letting the flow through will seriously unbalance the system.

Water will always find easiest way around a circuit, he should not have created a loop. As agile says system becomes difficult if not impossible to balance properly

I suppose the hot water will not be able to rise to the top (as it does with a rad).

So instead of cooler water from the bottom of rad flowing back to the boiler for reheating, the flow is mixing with the return and of course will not help balancing.

Cheers :D
