pillar drill switch repair

hi folks
hope someone a bit more savy than me can help me out.
i bought an old type pillar drill at the weekend and it works fine, except for one thing.
to turn it on and off, you have to plug in or pull the plug out, it looks like they have joined the wires and by passed the switch.
its not a major problem, but it would be nice if i could sort the switch out.
you can see the pics and hopefully see what i mean.
