The Alpha 240e does not have a pilot light.
The Alpha 240p does have a pilot light.
Which one do you actually have, look at the front of boiler or on the sides for a data badge.

On careful examination it's the one without a pilot light so I guess it's not as simple as it seemed at first - it does not fire when water or heating is turned on - I am of the opinion that i should call in the engineer !!!!
