Apollo 65/80B wall mounted gas boiler. A problem that is now getting worse is the pilot light extinguishing after banging noises from the boiler. this happens on Hi or Low settings. Could this be due to overheating and requiring replacement of Hi and Low thermostats ?

sounds more like the pump has failed
the noises you hear are being made by the water in the heat exchanger boiling dues to lack of circulation
the pilot will go out as the apollos tc is interrupted by an over heat stat
