pine floor splinters

Hi, I have just sanded (using a pro sanding machine) and old pine floor, but there are still splinters, what can I do ? will varninshing \\\"stick\\\" them down ?cheers

No, it will make it worse.You will be better off with a belt sander which is smaller on the effective area.See this.
 
Best rub in some glue before varnishing stage. For small splits use pva or polyurethane and weigh down with heavy object overnight with plastic bag as a barrier. Next day you can sand. Larger splits will need a bit of sanding dust added. If floor is going to be stained add small amount of poster paint powder or even coffee to colour it. Bad areas will need epoxy resin [you could mix in some sanding dust, but too much will weaken the adhesion] Really bad will need patching with new timber. You could make a neat housing for a patch with a forstner bit for round patch or use an electric router. Glue in a nice tight patch. Use tracing paper for temlate. Use bench mounted belt sander to fine tune the patch, having fixed the patch to a larger piece to hold onto for safety, else you could damage your fingers, some final hand work may be required - don't take risks with the sander and mind loose clothing etc.
