Have a terrace with a real low roof, 1.4m "head room" between rafters and beams above.
Wondering about any architectural ideas based around getting any of the below through planning permission, in a way that satisfies current planning themes around 'beauty'.
a) Having box dormer at the back that's over the ridge height
b) two joined gable dormers, at front and back, each other ridge height
c) piggyback loft conversion
I am aware that the prior approval rules allow adding an extra storey to a terrace, but a recent court case confirmed councils can (and always do) object to this on grounds it's different to the rest. However, that may be a way of opening pre-submission discussion with the council.
house is coastal and a variety of differently designed buildings in the area. Ceilings below are not high enough to use a bit of that.
