Hi, Can anyone tell me if I can buy plaster coving in 4 metre lengths and if so where (uk). I am moving house and need to put it up in every room. Most of the walls are over 3 metres and from past experience I can never get a good join without it showing. To have it done professionally is too expensive.
Thanks

Yes you can get "4 metre" lengths of coving. Google up "Gyproc cove" for more.

Roughcaster.

Our local independent builder’s merchant used to sell it in 4m lengths but he’s long gone & I don’t know if the big national chains sell it, with the accent on square ceilings these days, it’s rather less fashionable. The trick to getting an invisible join is to mitre the lengths together rather than just butting them, end-to end.

Thanks for the advice, so a mitred join would show less than a butted one, how could it be made invisable? Is coving now less fashionable than square ceilings?

By accurately lining them up, filling & sanding.

Most definitely; coving is good for hiding cracks on dodgy new builds which is why it became so popular but is now only marginally more fashionable than Artex. Artex only became fashionable because literally anyone can do it & “builders” didn’t want to pay for a decent plaster job.

Plain, square ceilings are now a very desirably feature; many plasterers, including me, are spending a lot of their time ripping down old coving, making good & plastering over grotty Artex patterns!
