Hi,
We started stripping the old lining paper off the walls in our kitchen/diner - it was really bad - looked more like 2 ft squares had been used, not rolls!.. And it was peeling in places etc,. Intention/expectation was to patch holes, PVA then re-line & paint. Especially as this is 100+ yr old victorian house, so not expecting too much of the plaster.
However, we were really suprised how well the old paper has come off - took a bit of effort - a few hairline cracks but mostly the plaster underneath is sounds & still nice and smooth.
So we got to thinking, could we just paint instead -- we'd prefer if we could. We reckon if we tried painting it and it's rubbish then we can go back to Plan A and re-line. What would be the best method of preparation for painting?
Piccy of plaster in case it helps ... it's not 'modern' brown plaster:
(yeah.. and bottom right a bit of backing paper I still need to shift)
