I have a plasterboard partition wall which has been subject to water from a plumbing leak running top to bottom for several weeks, (it took a long time to identify the leak as it was inside the wall). Will I need to replace the plaster board? I am currently drying out using a fan heater, the leak has also damaged a particle board floor in my toilet which will have to be replaced.

It really depends how bad it’s been affected which is difficult to asses without seeing it. PB can remain intact after a good soaking providing the leak is quickly fixed & the PB doesn’t remain saturated for an extended length of time but if subjected to water/moisture for any length of time it distorts, the paper linings delaminate (usually taking the plaster skim with it) & the bonding in the gypsum core itself also disintegrates. It might be in your interest to take it down anyway as this will greatly speed up the drying time of the wall or studwork behind it. If you try to speed up drying time using heaters, you could cause even more damage, it’s best to rely on background heating & natural ventilation with help from a de-humidifier if necessary.
