Plasterboard or plaster directly onto laths?

I've removed approximately a 6ft x 6ft area of plaster from the corner of a ceiling as it had been damaged at some point in the past. This has exposed the timber laths onto which the plaster was directly placed. The laths are in perfect condition.

I have some plasterboard so I can have this screwed onto the ceiling area, then have a plasterer plaster onto this.

Alternatively I suppose a plasterer could plaster directly onto the laths again. I suppose this would be more expensive as the plasterer would have to plaster with coarse plaster, wait to dry, then plaster again with fine plaster.

If plastering directly onto the plasterboard they could probably plaster solely with fine plaster so there wouldn't be the waiting time.

What do you think?

I would find a plasterer first, and ask them first.
The plasterer would still have to prep the board even if you did the boarding.
Depending on the reply you might consider having the hole repaired and skim the whole ceiling
