Plasterboard splitting?

hi
bear with me, im a complete novice when it comes to this stuff
anyway brought an house and got a few issues but this is one of them:
in the spare room, after peeling off the wallpaper i noticed where the plasterboard is joined it is sort of swelling outwards.
i can push on both sides of the plasterboard and they go in.

whats the best course of action guys? im comfortable doing work its just knowing the best way to go about it

sounds like either damp if the plasterboard is swollen.
I'd be tempted to take it off and investigate the problem and then replace it with new

What type of wall surface are the boards fitted to.
Is it a solid wall or stud wall?
If solid the adhesive is failing or not been applied to edge of boards.
If stud they have not been fixed correctly or stud could be moving.
But we must also consider the condition of the boards if damp is an issue!

its appears its plasterboard thats been dabbed/glued (sorry if wording is wrong) onto the brick
dont think its damp, no discolouring, feels bone dry etc

so if it is dabbed/glued onto the wall, and it as come away from the wall.
what are my options?
is it basically a new plasterboard job?

It would be your best option, you could try screwing it down but it's not always a good solution.

by the time you cut the bit out,trying to fix it, you may as well rip it off and put new ones on. By a bag of plasterboard adhesive, get the board(s) cut first, kcock it up, stick it on.

but i have polystyrene coving above it that would need changing aswell i assume?

One thing you could try is to get a hole saw, knock the area that has failed to find out where the adhesive isn't, drill a hole or two or three, mix up some adhesive thick, wet the wall with a spay bottle, push in the thick adhesive and plug the hole with the plasterboard you cut out, push it in and leave 1m, let it dry then fill with easy fill. Job done.

If the boards are prowd then place some wood accross and lean something heavy accross until it's dry, then easy fill...
