Plastering over a wooden windowsill.

I have one window with a wooden sill which was deeply embedded into the wall so I left it in place rather than risk most of the plaster on the wall coming off with it.

Would it be possible to plaster over the top of it to give a finish that matches the others? I was thinking of using metal mesh lath over the wood before plastering.

Has anyone done something similar with any success?

Just fix plasterboard over and skim.
