Just purchased a wireless plug in door bell, it looks fairly well made but the plug in Bell part has no BS accreditation, just a tiny paper CE sticker. Since it plugs in to a 13A socket should it not have have a BS number ? Its for an elderly neighbour, we dont want any dodgy SMPS bursting into flames !

What model is it or where did you buy it and a picture

BS and CE marks don't always mean much these days. You can print anything.

if its supposed to have a BS number

It's not "supposed to have a BS number". It should probably have a UKCA logo. If it has a CE mark, I'd say that's fine - to the extent that you believe any of these self-certified marks mean anything.

Does the elderly neighbour have a smoke alarm?

it is often said that CE stands for Chinese Export , anyway do you trust everybody who self certifies their own product?

It's not unusual for incorrect things to be "often said".

All the stuff coming from AliExpress or whatever direct to EU and UK customers

Surely they can print whatever marks they like without fear of consequences

Countries which wanted to generate consequences for them could collapse their customer base by prosecuting the customers for importing dangerous and/or falsely certified products.

Ok morqthana:LOL:

In the real world that will never happen

It's not like you're buying fireworks or importing meth:p
