Hi,
I want to install a dishwasher and i was wondering if i could share the washing machine waste drain standpipe with the dishwasher if i could fit both wastepipes into it As this is closer that the sink wastepipe (about 1.5 m away).

Many Thanks in advance

That would be a shoddy arrangement, as you'd have to deform both of the 25mm waste pipes to fit into the standpipe, and it might not cope with the flow if both appliances drained at the same time.

There are many better alternatives, but could you add an additional standpipe and connect it to the existing horizontal waste pipe?

Nowt shoddy about one of these, McAlpine V33WM available from your local plumbers merchants ;)

If the V33WM incorporates an air admittance hole, then that would be a reasonable solution, but you still couldn't discharge both appliances into a standpipe at the same time without risking overrun.

If the V33WM has no admittance hole in it, then it would be a shoddy solution that would either fail to work or would cause the water seal to be dragged out of the nearest trap.

How many installations have you seen where draining the washing machine causes the sink (or something else) to gurgle? Well, each one is a shoddy installation.
