my radiator in the conservatory is a double one and it gets hot at the top and cold at the bottom could you tell me why this is

Most likely the bottom of the radiator is full of sludge - if only this radiator is affected then you can close the valves at both ends, disconnect and flush it - if other rads on the system have similar symptons then the system may be in need of attention.

Assuming you have enough flow to it (valves are open enough), then this is caused by sludge sitting in the bottom of the radiator. You need to remove the radiator and flush it out with a garden hose. Be careful, this sludge will stain your flooring.
