Pointing before external wall insulation?

Hi Guys, we’ve just had the top half of our 1920s house externally insulated and rendered (it was rendered before and the bottom half is brick). We’re considering possibly insulating and rendering the whole lot in maybe a year or 2. The problem is the bottom half pointing really needs doing its cracked and pulled away all over the shop. The coat for the insulation/render is about 2k more.
If the pointing is knackered is it still worth fixing the worst areas before getting the insulation/render done or is it pointless and a waste of money if its getting covered?
If we’re going to have to wait 2 years to afford the render option would we anyone advise still getting the pointing done rather than leaving it for so long. We have no noticeable damp issues at the moment.

Thinking ahead 2 years??

if it were me, I would re-point the perished pointing.

Why?

To prevent rain water getting into the brick, if the brick is well sealed then less rain water will find its way into the brick.

If the brick is damp / wet when the external insulation is applied?? where does that dampness go??
