Like i said, charlatans making fanciful claims.
The 2 listed do not mean Police Approved.

Secured by design an approval system run by

ACPO Secured by Design

Established in 1989, Secured by Design (SBD) is owned by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) and is the corporate title for a group of national police projects focusing on the design and security for new & refurbished homes, commercial premises and car parks as well as the acknowledgement of quality security products and crime prevention projects.
Secured by Design Membership

The company operates a licensing scheme and includes member companies who are entitled to use the Secured by Design logo and promote the term 'Police Preferred Specification' on products which have passed the tests specified by ACPO Secured by Design.

Very good,
The charlatan can cut and paste.

Still seems to have bother with the word approved though. And organisations

The Test House of Choice for Security Products

Sold Secure is dedicated to reducing the risk of crime by the assessment of security products. Established in 1992 by Northumbria and Essex Police with the help and backing of the Home Office. Sold Secure is now owned and administered by the Master Locksmiths Association (a not for profit trade association) and works from purpose built laboratories just outside Daventry.

The scheme has close ties with a number of constabularies

Nope, no 'police approved' there either.

Interestingly, they go on to say;

"it does not give any form of guarantee that these products will be 100% effective in combating crime. Also, it does not guarantee that these methods are suitable for specific applications. It is the responsibility of the equipment supplier and equipment purchaser to ensure that any system is suitable to its particular application and that it complies with all legislation, standards, codes of practice or any other requirement. Every effort has been made to ensure the contents of the list are accurate, however Sold Secure does not accept any responsibility for loss arising from decisions based upon it."

But then, being a Ltd company with NO links to the police, they would cover their backs.

Makes the issue of full insurance more relevant.

Secured by Design is a crime prevention initiative managed by ACPO CPI Limited on behalf of the UK Associated of Chief Police Officers (ACPO).

Ok playing the devils advocate here - Do you think if a load of High ranking Police Officers were to set up an initiative they would approve what they had done or actually say , 'tell you what chaps what we have created is crap lets not bother with it.'

do you think the initiative will meet with police approval or not?
are the products tested as acceptable 'approved' or rejected?

The police advice homeowners to use 'Sold secure' and 'secure by design' products. Secure by design even allow the use of the police logo therefore approval is implicit.

Oh boy, he gets worse doesn't he!

The police don't and have never approved companies.

Companies may be on Police lists of companies, but they are NOT approved.

Easy for him to check, contact your local Crime Reduction Officer and ask the question.

Exactly.

He seems to live in a parallel universe where his assumptions are to be taken as fact - irrespective of what is actually written by the organisations themselves.

also overlooks the no small matter of legal implications for the police if his take on things were to be correct.

The police give the contact details of an organisation in Leeds Called CASAC

They are a Police approved organisation who visit vunerable members of the public and target harden homes with grills and locks etc.

The contact details are given by the police when they visit burgled homes or vunerable people.

CASAC actually abuse this position and overcharge for services.
But no surprises there then.

Police approval means no big shakes to me I prefer to add value for money .
However if someone wants a safe I will direct then to the sold secure-secure by design-certfied products I fit.

The police's and ex police's reach into the security industry is nothing other than a profiteering nepotistic cartel at times.

Who really gives a fig about police approval?

The police logo on the products the customers can read into what they will. I don't give two hoots if they see that as approval. It looks like that to me.
