Polishing a marble table

We've bought a second hand travertine marble dining room table and it needs a polish.

Has anyone had experience of doing this/what products to use etc... Or is it just best to get someone in who knows what they're doing?

just paint it with yacht varnish.

Not sure if it will work on this one but we got a marble fireplace fitted about 12 years ago and the old geezer said dont bother wasting your money on those expensive cleaning solutions for marble just use salad cream.......I did and it worked a treat

I tried raw eggs on a traffic warden once - He came up a treat!
