Does the choice of Filter on a heat exchange system affect how much air can go through the system? I am probably going to have some filters made for the Poplypipe HR01-W System. The originals are almost see through when I hold them up to the light, whereas the ones advertised as M5, G4 etc. seem a lot more dense and are advertised as filtering out pollen and even traffic fumes. I am asking due to a recent experience where I bought some cooker hood filters and the flow of air in the cooker hood seemed to be significantly reduced due to the new filters.

Do you mean fibre filters in hood, or metal grid?

In the cooker hood it was the circular carbon filters, model WPRO Type 145. However, for the heat exchanger I am not sure what material they are made from.

This is the original, but the replacements look like a more dense material.

Yes, but if your system is balanced to building regs gale force requirements it will be unlikely to have a profound effect on the overall freshness of air in the house, as part F's vent requirements are excessive

If you've set more like just-enough with the original filters you may find that you need to up the fan speed some when using finer filters; see what your gut feel is to the air quality in the house post replacement

Thanks. If it uses more electric for the same amount of air that is fine with me.
