Portable AC unit icing up on side

Hi I have a portable AC unit. The grill on side is incongruous ip((lower half only usually). Any ideas why?

2 days ago it said it was full. So I drained it.

That to me looks like a poor airflow issue, is the unit run with a filter mesh panel and when there is no ice there, is there fluff and lint blocking the airflow through the evaporator? If there is, the best way is to jet it out with compressed air.

2 years old. Only used it about 40 days

This refers to home AC but the same applies to a portable unit. Have you been using it without the mesh filter, does it have any fluff/lint on the evaporator?

The refrigeration system should operate with the temperature of the evaporator slightly above freezing. This is to prevent a ice forming on the evaporator.

This temperature is a function of the system pressure. A low charge of refrigerant is the classic cause of this problem.

Yes. I’ve had a look inside. Fan working et . How would I fix this?

Unless you have F-gas certification, a vacuum pump, set of refrigeration gauges, cylinder of gas & a recovery cylinder..... legally, you can't.

I'm afraid to need to take it to a refrigeration engineer and hope it contains a refrigeration gas which is still legal.
