So I'm cleaning then protecting our CH system today. The instructions suggest I should circulate the water in the system for 2-4 hours, which I understand. Obviously I know I can do this by having the CH on (and thus the rads hot) but I'm wondering if there's any way to have the pump circulate *without* heat? Or is that a stupid question?

Harry.

yes you can

just turn the room stat up, and the boiler stat down.

the chemicals work better and faster when hot though

the 2-4 hours means at normal working temperature.

Heat is best. But without a poerflush machine you are wasting your time. You'll get some dirty water out but are unlikely to shift anything.

If you havent got the right equipment, take each rad off and flush it outside. This is superior to a Powerflush, but potentially a lot messier.

I found X400 was really good. I had already done the garden hosepipe thing, plain water flushes and fitted a Magnaclean. When I added the X400 I got a very gratifying additional amount of black sludge out.

like I said

Are you going to tell me I didn't?

No but it is still shyte and your system is still full of muck.
Try flushing it again if you don't believe me.

I subsequently had it powerflushed before the new boiler went in and it was very clean.

You really don't like alternative opinions, do you?

Any chemical reaction is speeded by heat - alright some are  So cover the rads with blankets , then run the system hot

It doesn't particularly worry me what you think is a good flushing agent. At least it is better than x300 and slightly better than fairy liquid.

Thanks all. Have decided to run it through hot, but will do it on Monday when the kids are back at school (and thus out of my way!).
