Hi

Recently moved into a 1968 Dormer in N.Wales

Vented tank system, gravity DHW pumped CH, no valves, no cyl stat, ACL SM400 prog.

The system runs off a Potterton BBU, gas. Obviously it's a dated unit.

Can anyone share experience on this BBU?
Is it pretty reliable, assuming installed/serviced correctly?
Have these any "known" problems?
Anything to watch, or even listen, for?
How inefficient are these?

Thanks

these are quite an old system, however they are very reliable as there is really nothing to go wrong with them.

It is imperative that they do get service once a year and have the correct ventilation to ensure safe operation.

The down side of these appliances is the efficiency, probibly no more than 55% and along with the very poor gravity HW system you are looking at an expensive system to run.

you are looking at a few quid to replace and upgrade the system but its up to how deep your pockets are as to weather you carry on with an old system or you replace for a high efficiency boiler and upgrade to a fully pumped system.
