Hello all
I have an aging Potterton Kingfisher MF 60 (11 yrs old) which is having problems heating. For no immediately apparent reason, we find that the rooms are getting a bit cold/cold or tepid water in the tap, then check the boiler panel and find that the flame indicator light is out.
We have had an engineer visit, who has adjusted the gas valve, tested and left, but it's made no difference. He also suggested that we may need a new gas valve, and left us with a quote to supply and fit at a cost of £253.48
Before I start parting with more money, I thought that I should ask for advice here, as I had a very positive experience trying this two years ago when the boiler had overheating problems - (thanks again Agile and others)
When this happens, the pilot light is still lit, and there is no indication on the panel of a lock out (no red light), so it doesn't appear to be overheating.
I can get the boiler to start heating again by turning the demand dial to the off position, waiting a while, then turning it back around to its usual position - but even this sometimes fails to help, and I have to resort to switching the boiler off at the isolating switch and then back on again.
Does anyone have another opinion, or is the gas valve the most likely suspect!
(PS - the main controller board was replaced two years ago to fix the overheating problem)
Hope you can help :)

Thanks
Brian

Hello garagerob
Thanks for your post - I don't think so - there is nothing wired/attached to the flue that I can see (hope I'm not being a bit simple!)
I suppose that it could be something to do with a backdraught, but we've been living with the boiler for 5 years, and it's never done this type of thing before, so it would seem unlikely.
If it helps, it's just gone out again, and the fan is running constantly, and there is a ticking noise as if it's trying to switch/ignite something.

Any other ideas ?
Thanks
Brian
