My boiler has just died, British Gas have pronounced that it is the Mercury Vapour Switch that has gone, and that it is an obsolete part. I have been ringing round to try to find one, but with no luck. Does any one have one? Or can anyone suggest someone who might just have one lying around at the back of their shop?

The part number is 404452 if that is any help

I know my boiler will need replacing but this is the first time that it has conked out in the years we have lived here, and at this moment in time I can't really afford to replace the boiler - don't get my bonus until August,

Any help or advice gratefully received

Thanks

i would strongly avoid buying second hand parts from ebay any decent corgi guy wouldn't fit second hand parts... for the simple fact you cant prove its safe. try to resource new part if not its a new boiler, sorry.

The last time I saw a price quoted for that part it was about £134.

Its an old boiler and uness something is special about it then I would say its time to replace the boiler/

Chris R often has old parts but he may be on holiday ( again ).

Got one some time ago but did not use it. You can have this, for a price.

My details are in the profile.

Hi All,

I have now purchased a new switch from Dan at Rannoch Services in Glasgow. I asked British Gas to come and fit it, they turned up and said they couldn't fit it because it did not come in packaging which had the manufacturers name on and there had to be an invoice from the plumb centre or some such organization. Obviously this causes me a problem as the part went out of production many years ago. The switch did come in a polythene bag type thing that spares usually come in, looking at it it is fairly obvious that it is new. The chap I bought it off is corgi registered and has warranted that it is brand new.

I live in Llandudno in North Wales, can anybody either fit this for me or recommend a gas fitter in the region that could.

Thanks
