My boiler has locked out several times recently displaying the A05 code. this seems to coincide with the domestic hot water being very hot. Pressing the reset button fixes the problem, till the next time!
Are these two things linked, and is the problem likely to be with the DHW thermostat or the control panel? Your help would be appreciated.

What service is being demanded from the boiler when it locks out?

Be aware that these are difficult boilers for many to work on and there are serious safety issues if not does correctly!

Is your flue pipe visible along all of its length?

When was it last professionally serviced?

Tony

hi Tony,
I'm not sure which service is being called for when it locks out as DHW and CH are generally coming onabout the same time. I will try to monitor that more closely.
The flue is boxed in from the boiler to the outside wall ( about 9 ft)
The boiler was serviced by Scottish Gas about 6 weeks ago, although this seemed to simply involve measuring gas pressure and exhaust gas content. The engineer seemed to know very little about this model of boiler.
Cheers and thanks for your input.

Thats worrying!

Anyone servicing or working on these boilers should have given you a written warning that the flue is not inspectable and the boiler could be at risk.

Someone was killed recently when a flue could not be inspected and turned out to be faulty.

Hi ksmea,

Sorry if this is too late to refresh your memory, but I am facing exactly same issue with my Pottetron Powermax HE Boiler, even I got one gas engineer to have a look, he said it just the boiler wasnt serviced so he serviced and told me I shouldnt see this issue again, but it started happening from very next day so I am just wondeirng how did you fix the issue?

Your help will be very much appreciated.

You should be more worried about having inspection panels so that all your flue can be seen.

Tony

Hi Agile.

Ok, I dont know if there is inspection panel already in my property, is that a solution or this is just to see the pipe?

Do you know how to fix this issue?

The flue needs to be inspectable along all of its length.

Since beginning of the year a gas reg engineer is meant to turn off the boiler if the flue in not accesssible as its classed as At Risk.

Flue faults and other things in the boiler can cause your fault.

It is not a DIY repair and needs a competent engineer.
