Hi
My Potterton is about 10 yrs old and the central heating system switches off and the boiler flashes to red - I have to re-set it manually and more times than not, it doesn't reconnect until three attempts at re-set.
This doesn"t happen if only the hot water is switched on - unlikely in this weather!
After re-setting, a whooshing sound can be heard and loud banging sounds start, but not always. It sounds like it's coming from within the boiler and maybe it's an air lock?
At night I switch the heating off completely before I go to bed as the timer is set early in the morning and if it doesn't connect properly, loud sounds come from the tank in the airing cupboard until I re-set the button back from red to green.
One of the downstairs radiators appears to have stopped working all together even after bleeding it for air!
The main circuit board was replaced exactly a year ago but the old problem is back. One of the engineers said that maybe there is insufficient gas flow or a water leak!
Any suggestions greatly received!
