Hi,
I've a 2-year old Potterton Suprima 30 boiler and recently it's started to play up.

The boiler can run fine, with no problems for a few day, but then some days we have hell with it!

It's locking out often. We find we have no heating or hot water because it's locked out. Pressing Reset cures it and it can last a few hours before doing it again. Then, for no reason - it's fine for a few days.

The boiler is a little louder than normal - swishing noises, and pipes are banging in the attic which I've never noticed before.

This problem is shared by 6 neighbours all with the identical system.

Does anyone know what's wrong - or what I can do to solve it? We're reluctant to get a plumber out if it's simple to fix!

We called Potterton, but they weren't interested in helping in the slightest.

Cheers
Craig.

I have experienced the same problem and by testing have ruled out the air pressure switch operated by the fan. Also ruled out the boiler stat and overheat stat.
plumbing pages on the net indicated the printed circuit board had a history of problems due to cracked soldering around the socket posts
Potterton dont appear to admit there is a problem but they introduced a modified PCB about Aug 02
I purchased (from curzon Heating)and fitted the new PCB at a cost of £132 and bingo no more problems
With a magnifier I can see the cracks on the old board
There is a firm called CET at Watford who specialises in repairing these boards for around £45,they are also on the net
