Got 2 sheds about 3ft apart and want to get power from one to the other. Problem is one is raised about 16" - 18" higher off the ground than the other and trying to use swa underground would be a huge pain.

Would an overhead cable between the sheds be possible? Just wondering about a customised caravan hook up lead so that the second shed can simply be unplugged if ever I needed to.

Opinions please what would you do?

How about SWA 'overground'? Provided it is not at risk of mechanical damage, SWA does not have to be buried.

Kind Regards, John

Hi John, sorry if I sound stupid, can you explain how you would go about that please. Do you mean draped across the top of the ground and connected either end with a gland to a junction box?

Essentially, yes, provided that can be done in a manner which doesn't leave the cable too exposed to possible mechanical damage.

How about taking it out the back of one shed, along the ground by the fence and into the back of the other shed? Very little risk of mechanical damage such as people walking on it/tripping over it.

As you presumably realise, that is essentially what I was suggesting.

If what was behind the sheds was a wall, I would clip the SWA to the wall fairly low down, reducing even further any risk of it being interfered with. Quite frankly, I'd personally probably do the same with the OP's fence, but that would undoubtedly result in comments here about fences not being suitable for clipping cables to (since they call fall/blow/be knocked down)!

Id also be tempted to use swa out bottom, out the bottom at the back of each shed, ive been known to thread it through a metre of black plastic pipe, where it spans the gap, so it looks tidier and a bit of extra protection, you could even clip the pipe to the backs of the shed, i would terminate both ends inside the sheds if possible direct into the accessories avoiding joints
